Somebody painted the old parker place in the middle of the night
Jason swore that in the window he could see some faint blue light
But they already cut down the cypress tree, there's crab grass all around
Growing in the middle of the tire swing that still sits on the ground
No one's lived in that old place for about twenty five years
But there are still paintings on the wall inside from what I hear
No one ever had the nerve to tear the whole place down
The place itself is probably even older than the town
     chorus:
The circus hasn't been back since 1984
And Main Street ain't the center of town anymore
Now the ghosts are dying for somebody to scare
By summer you keep saying you'll be gone from there
But there'll be snowflakes in your hair
snowflakes in your hair snowflakes in your hair

Sometimes winter's early, and it never wants to go
Winter came to town and stayed about a decade back or so
But the smell of wet woll sweaters is all that's left today
After old man parker split no one else could stand to stay
I know that his old empty house is haunted by his ghost
Even though he didn't die, he just moved out to the coast
That house is like a gravestone for town that's long since dead
And I thought they were gonna tear it down from what Lila said

Chorus

Jason said "There's nothing in the town for me anymore, I'll have to go away
I may still be young right now but I may not stay that way"
There are ghosts of dead people, but sometimes towns die too
And suddenly the Parker place has been painted midnight blue
There are specks of paint on the tire swing, but no prints in the snow
And everybody's asking around but no one seems to know
When all this snow is melted we might find out who is was
Spring has to get here sometime, but I bet it never does

Chorus
