Music and Movies

MOVIES:

Adam co-wrote this short film, which was featured in several film festivals from 2009-2011.

Dating Vampires PSA (2011)
The infamous "you're risking your ass" PSA that aired in the I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It and Extraordinary world. This one inspires debate in Extraordinary as to exactly how the girl lost a butt cheek while dating a vampire.

Some Other Shorts
More Vampire/Zombie PSAs, a couple of Smart Aleck's Guide videos, and other clips.

MUSIC:
Adam still plays the odd music gig here and there. He's not the worlds greatest singer/guitarist, but some of his songs are pretty good, and he got some GREAT people to play on his albums, including Vixy DockreyMary CrowellJeff Brown, Kelly Warner and Bryan Hall (now of Mile Train), and others! Now there's a GREAT deal in which you can buy his solo albums right here at 95% off list price!

Note: This Adam Selzer is not to be confused with the OTHER Adam Selzers: the one who lives in Portland, plays with Norfolk and Western (not to mention M. Ward) and is an ace producer, or the one who fronts Adam and the Couch Potatoes in Nashville. Adam (Chicago) is flattered to be mistaken for either of them, though. And back in the old days he was ocassionally credited as Kurtis the Vile - not to be confused with the guy who now records as Kurt Vile. Sheesh.

ADAM'S BANDS:

Formed in 8th grade algebra class with fellow miscreant Tanner Strutzeznberg, Scapegoat sings songs about beating up little kids to steal their slushees, traveling through space, and going to hell. Here's their epic explosion of 90s nostalgia, "Smells Like Family Matters." Here's a "dance mix" of one of their songs, featuring Claudia Gray on theremin:

Children's music for really well-adjusted children. As heard on Dr. Demento! Here's "Drink Your Juice."

GEEKS GONE WILD IN CHICAGO (Live 2007)

SJ's note: this is probably Adam's best record. It's about as "live" as Kiss: Alive 2 (most of the band recorded their parts remotely - only Adam and Jeff the guitar/ accordion player were onstage), but it sounds GREAT! These are the best versions of some of his best songs, with a band that brings in familiar faces from previous albums (Jeff, Vixy Dockrey and Mary Crowell) and some new faces (Amy McNally on violin).

CLARK STREET CAROLS (2006)
SJ's note: This one is kinda folk-rocky. Like something from 1971 that would have been recorded by guys with beards. Upright bass on several songs. Vixy Dockrey is such a good singer that she almost makes Adam sound good just by singing along with him on several tracks! Check out "One Last Short Poem." She sounds like Emmylou Harris.

SUBURBAN POST MODERNIST (2004)
SJ's Note: This one is pretty neat - lotsa trumpet and piano. Check out "One Man's Poetry" and "Punk Rock Tango Girl." Oh, and "Valentine's Day." And "Snowflakes In Your Hair," which isn't the worst Springsteen knock-off you ever heard. But doesn't "there'll be snowflakes in your hair" just mean "you'll have dandruff?" The jazzy "How Mark Got Sane" is very cool, daddy-o.

THE BROKEN CHIMEYS: SATAN'S PARENTS' BASEMENT
SJ says: this is a new one (2009) featuring "electric" versions of some of Adam Selzer and his Revolving Door All Stars' "greatest hits," as "covered" by The Broken Chimneys, as well as a couple of new songs. The opening "Doorbell Ditchin' at the Pearly Gates" is a great punk song!

STORM SHADOW (2001)
SJ's Note: This one has a very small cult following! Most of the best songs were later re-recorded for the live album or The Broken Chimneys (when Adam was marginally better at playing and singing), though. "Dread" is a pretty cool goth song with a violin in it - one of only a couple of recordings of the actual live lineup of "Adam Selzer and his Maritime Band," which had Joe Cato on drums and Margret Chang on violin.
