Get it on:
Suburban Post-Modernist

February afternoon driving down the lane
When she knows I see her staring she quickly turns away
The sound comes through the static and she tries to sing along
Her tiny hand is frozen and she gets the whole thing wrong
She's listening to an opera
She never listens to me.

She sips a cup of coffee with French vanilla cream
Hums the parts she knows of the Café Momus theme
Loooking out her window she never breaks her stare
Doesn't know I'm watching as she ties back her hair
She's listening to an opera
She never listens to me

The snow from January is still sitting on the ground
She pulls out another cigarrette and turns the volume down
As I pull on to Horton they're pausing for station ID
She asks if I think it'll snow tonight without even looking at me

When the aria is over she rolls her window down
And flicks a couple ashes at the outskirts of the town
she's listening to an opera
she never listens to me.
