Demon Dogs
Underneath the Brown Line Fullerton Stop (currently closed for track remodeling), 944 W. Fullerton.
Demon Dogs has long been known as one of the coolest places in the city to get a hot dog - nothing says "Chicago" quite like
eating underneath the El tracks! Lines go out the door, and competition for a place to sit gets pretty fierce. The walls are
covered with memorabilia from Chicago (the rock band).
And yet, funnily, they don't really serve Chicago hot dogs - what they serve are a sort of stripped down equivalent, lacking such touches
as the pickle spear, similar to the dogs served up at Gene and Jude's in River Forest. I imagine that this is because the lines are long enough, and having dogs that take
longer to make would make the lines move slower, causing people to miss the train. But the dogs are tasty as all get out, so there's no reason to complain. Not to be missed.
IN SUMMARY:
Not a "true" Chicago-style dog, but still not a place worth passing up. If you're dead-set against an unorthodox Chicago dog, try the Polish sausage.
